Welcome

The Kyu Shin Do Aikido (registered as Institute of Aikido New Zealand) represents a group of New Zealand aikido clubs which follow the teaching and structure passed down from O_Sensei through Kenshiro Abbe, Hadyn Foster and Ron Russell.

We work with the Institute of Aikido UK to honour the memory and teaching of the late Hadyn Foster, one of the earliest practitioners of aikido in the UK while continuing to develop our aikido from the teachings of the wide range of excellent teachers available to us in New Zealand.

We are an independent affiliate of the Institute of Aikido UK.

If you are interested in aikido check out our member clubs. We always welcome beginners and visitors.

Ray Eder 6th Dan

Technical Director IoA NZ

Ray has been studying aikido since 1982 and teaching since 1992.

In 1993, after the death of his teacher Ron Russell Sensei, Ray was appointed as the New Zealand representative of the Institute of Aikido by the late Hadyn Foster Sensei (7th Dan).

Ray was awarded his 5th Dan in 2006 by Mr. Foster.

Following the death of Mr Foster in 2011, Ray was graded by the AMAHOF Sokeship Council to 6th Dan in August 2016. This rank has been recognised by the Institute of Aikido UK.

One of Ray's major guiding values is that the teaching of aikido is a community service and should not be done for personal profit.

Aikido is non-competitive and fosters a cooperative, supportive attitude, not always compatible with competitive business practices .
